MGT 5170: Entrepreneurial and Strategic Thinking
Team A Charter and Team Orientation Activity
Team Number: Team A
Team Members:
Goal #1: Team Charter
Mission Statement
The mission of Team A is to work collaboratively, respectfully, and strategically to successfully complete all team assignments for MGT. Our team is committed to combining the individual knowledge, skills, experiences, and perspectives of each member to produce high-quality work that demonstrates strategic and entrepreneurial thinking.
We will create an environment in which every member feels comfortable contributing ideas, asking questions, providing feedback, and participating in team decisions. Our goal is not only to achieve strong academic performance but also to strengthen our teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Team Norms
Team A agrees to follow these expectations throughout the course:
- Treat every team member with professionalism, respect, and consideration.
- Listen to each member’s ideas without interrupting or dismissing their perspective.
- Encourage open and honest communication.
- Provide constructive and respectful feedback.
- Complete assigned responsibilities accurately and by agreed-upon deadlines.
- Communicate as early as possible if a member anticipates difficulty completing an assignment or attending a scheduled meeting.
- Attend scheduled team meetings prepared to participate.
- Start and end meetings on time whenever possible.
- Review relevant materials before meetings.
- Remain focused on the purpose of each meeting.
- Support other team members when reasonable and necessary for the success of the group.
- Hold each member accountable while maintaining a positive and supportive team environment.
- Respect differences in opinions, experiences, schedules, and working styles.
Ensuring Individual Contributions Are Considered
Team A recognizes that effective teamwork requires participation from every member. Each team member will be given an equal opportunity to contribute ideas, recommendations, and concerns before major decisions are made.
Members may share suggestions during meetings, through WhatsApp, email, or shared documents. No idea will be automatically dismissed without reasonable consideration.
When reviewing suggestions, the team will evaluate the idea based on its relevance to the assignment, course requirements, supporting evidence, feasibility, and potential contribution to the quality of the team’s work rather than on which team member presented the idea.
Managing Ideas and Suggestions
New ideas and suggestions will first be presented to the entire team for discussion. Each team member will have an opportunity to ask questions, recommend changes, or suggest alternatives.
Whenever possible, Team A will attempt to reach a consensus. If consensus cannot be reached within a reasonable amount of time, the issue will be decided through a democratic majority vote.
Each team member will receive one vote. Once a final decision has been made, all members agree to support the team’s decision even if their preferred option was not selected.
Communication Plan
Team A will use WhatsApp, email, Canvas, and virtual meetings for communication.
WhatsApp will serve as the team’s primary method for routine communication, scheduling, reminders, quick questions, and assignment updates.
school email may be used when formal communication, detailed information, important documents, or information requiring a permanent record needs to be shared.
Canvas
All team members are responsible for independently monitoring Canvas announcements, assignment instructions, due dates, professor communications, and course updates.
Virtual Meetings
The team may use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or another mutually agreed-upon platform when a live discussion is necessary.
Important information affecting the team or an assignment should be communicated to all members. Team members should make a reasonable effort to acknowledge important messages within 24 hours. For time-sensitive matters near an assignment deadline, members should respond as soon as reasonably possible.
Meeting Management
Team meetings will be scheduled based on the availability of team members.
Before a formal meeting, the team should identify the purpose of the meeting and, when appropriate, circulate topics that need to be discussed.
Meetings may include:
- Review of current assignment requirements.
- Status updates from team members.
- Identification of outstanding tasks.
- Discussion of questions, concerns, or new ideas.
- Assignment of responsibilities.
- Establishment of internal deadlines.
- Confirmation of the team’s next steps.
At least two of the three team members must participate when a significant team decision must be made. Whenever possible, however, major decisions will include input from all three members.
Members who are unable to attend a scheduled meeting are responsible for notifying the team as early as possible and obtaining information regarding decisions, assignments, or updates discussed during the meeting.
Meeting Behavior Norms / Code of Conduct
During meetings and team communications, Team A members agree to:
- Be respectful and professional.
- Allow others to finish speaking before responding.
- Avoid personal criticism.
- Focus disagreements on ideas rather than individuals.
- Remain open to different perspectives.
- Participate actively.
- Ask questions when clarification is needed.
- Provide constructive feedback.
- Stay focused on team goals.
- Maintain academic integrity.
- Avoid allowing one member to dominate discussions or decision-making.
- Recognize and respect each team member’s contributions.
Decision Making
Team A will use a collaborative decision-making process.
The preferred method will be consensus, particularly for major assignments and strategic decisions.
If consensus cannot reasonably be achieved, the team will use a majority vote. Each team member will have an equal vote.
Before voting, each member will have an opportunity to explain their position. Decisions should be based on:
- Assignment requirements
- Course concepts
- Available evidence
- Quality of the proposed solution
- Feasibility
- Team goals
- Professor instructions
- Overall benefit to the team’s final submission
Once a decision has been made, team members agree to respect and support the final decision.
Handling Conflict
Team A understands that differences of opinion are a normal part of teamwork. Disagreements will be addressed respectfully and promptly before they negatively affect team performance.
When conflict occurs, the team will:
- Acknowledge that a disagreement exists.
- Clearly identify the issue rather than focusing on personalities.
- Allow each involved member to explain their perspective without interruption.
- Review relevant facts, assignment requirements, and team goals.
- Identify possible solutions.
- Attempt to reach a mutually acceptable resolution.
- Use a team vote when consensus cannot be reached.
- Document important decisions when necessary to avoid future misunderstandings.
If the team is unable to resolve a significant issue internally after reasonable attempts, the team may seek guidance from the professor.
Assignment Responsibilities
Responsibilities will be divided as evenly and reasonably as possible based on assignment requirements, workload, availability, strengths, and member interests.
Team responsibilities may include:
- Research
- Writing
- Editing
- APA formatting and references
- Proofreading
- Presentation development
- Strategic analysis
- Reviewing assignment instructions
- Final submission review
Dividing an assignment does not mean that members are responsible only for their individual sections. All members share responsibility for reviewing the final product and ensuring that the completed assignment represents the team’s best work.
Internal deadlines should normally be established before the official Canvas deadline to provide adequate time for reviewing, revising, combining, formatting, and proofreading the final submission.
Team Goals
Team A establishes the following goals:
- Successfully complete every team assignment by the required deadline.
- Produce professional, graduate-level work that meets or exceeds assignment expectations.
- Earn the highest possible score on team assignments.
- Maintain consistent and respectful communication throughout the course.
- Ensure that all members contribute meaningfully to team assignments.
- Consider the ideas and perspectives of every team member.
- Apply strategic and entrepreneurial thinking to team decisions and assignments.
- Resolve disagreements professionally and constructively.
- Maintain academic integrity and proper citation practices.
- Develop teamwork and leadership skills that can be transferred to professional environments.
- Support one another while maintaining individual accountability.
- Create a positive and productive team experience throughout MGT 5170.
Performance Measurement
Team A will evaluate its performance throughout the course using the following measures:
- Assignments are completed on time.
- Internal deadlines are met.
- All members participate and contribute.
- Communication remains consistent.
- Team members respond appropriately to messages and requests.
- Work is reviewed before submission.
- Professor feedback is considered and applied to future assignments.
- Conflicts are resolved professionally.
- Final submissions meet assignment instructions and graduate-level expectations.
- Responsibilities are distributed fairly.
- Team members demonstrate accountability for their assigned responsibilities.
If an area of team performance needs improvement, members will discuss the concern and determine appropriate corrective action.
Accountability
Each team member is responsible for fulfilling the commitments established in this charter.
If a member cannot complete an assigned responsibility by an established deadline, that individual should notify the team as early as possible so that the team can develop an alternative plan.
Repeated concerns regarding missed responsibilities, lack of communication, or lack of participation should first be addressed directly and respectfully within the team. If the concern continues and significantly affects the team’s ability to complete course requirements, the team may seek guidance from the professor.
Team Commitment
By signing this charter, each member acknowledges that they have reviewed and agree to follow the expectations, responsibilities, communication procedures, decision-making process, and team goals established by Team A.
We agree to work collaboratively and respectfully while recognizing that the success of the team depends upon the active participation, communication, and accountability of every member.

Goal #2: Team Fun Activity
Virtual Coffee and Game Social
To fulfill the second objective of the Team Charter Assignment, Team A will participate in a Virtual Coffee and Game Social.
The purpose of this activity is to allow team members to interact in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, build rapport, and learn more about one another outside of course assignments and team responsibilities.
Each member will join a virtual meeting using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or another mutually agreed-upon platform. Team members are encouraged to bring a favorite beverage or snack.
During the activity, the team will participate in lighthearted conversation and a short Getting to Know You game. Possible questions may include:
- What is your dream vacation destination?
- What is your favorite movie or television show?
- What is one interesting fact about you that most people would not guess?
- If you could meet any famous person, who would it be?
- What is your favorite food or restaurant?
- What is one item you could not live without?
- If you won the lottery tomorrow, what is the first thing you would do?
- What is something that always makes you laugh?
- What is one place you would love to visit?
- What is your favorite way to relax after a busy week?
The activity will be completely social, and no coursework, assignments, or team responsibilities will be discussed during the event.
At the conclusion of the virtual social, Team A will take a group screenshot or photograph showing the members who participated. This picture will be submitted through the Canvas Discussion Board as required.
Canvas Discussion Board Post
Team A – Fun Activity
Participating Team Members:
For our Team Orientation fun activity, Team A participated in a Virtual Coffee and Game Social. Each team member joined the virtual gathering with a beverage or snack, and we spent time relaxing, talking, laughing, and getting to know one another outside of our academic responsibilities.
During our social activity, we participated in a Getting to Know You game where we answered fun questions about our interests, hobbies, favorite activities, travel preferences, and personal experiences. We intentionally did not discuss coursework or assignments because the purpose of the activity was to have fun and build stronger interpersonal connections as a team.
This experience gave us an opportunity to become more comfortable with one another and begin establishing positive relationships that can support effective communication and collaboration throughout MGT .

TEAM CHARTER ASSIGNMENT
MGT 5170: Entrepreneurial and Strategic Thinking
Module-Level Objective: Construct a Team Charter with your Strategy Team applying team building knowledge and experience from previous courses. CLO3, CLO6, CLO7
Goal #1: Create Team Charter
Team charters are helpful in providing a set of ground rules for managing the team’s progress. Team charters can include a mission statement, rules for governing, details on how decisions will be made, etc. The first objective of this assignment is for each team to create a team charter.
To facilitate the creation of a team charter, a template of a charter is available below. Your team may use this template as a guide to develop your own, unique team charter. Please feel free to modify, add, edit, adjust in any way that will suit your team achieving its goals.
When creating your team charter, be sure to discuss how the team will work together to ensure each individual’s contributions are considered. It is advised that each team should include a clause in the charter to describe how ideas and suggestions will be managed (e.g., will members put new ideas to a democratic vote?). Also, be sure to specifically state the goals of your team.
Goal #2: Have Fun
The second objective of this assignment is for all members of your group to get together and do something fun. (Yes, you get points for having fun!) Your group should plan a social activity for all members of your team. For example, you may meet for virtual coffee, etc. It’s your choice. Be creative! Even though you are a virtual team, you can have fun together – no work allowed. Past teams have been creative at fulfilling this aspect of the Team Orientation.
At the event, take pictures. Your team will then submit the picture to me via the Discussion Board in Canvas. In the discussion board posting, be sure to include a list of team members who participated and a brief description of what your team did for fun. Post this assignment in Canvas Discussions by Tuesday 8/25 at 11:59 pm. We will discuss the activities and the purpose of this assignment later. You might be surprised.
Note: To receive full credit, an individual must participate in both activities.
