Surname 1 Understanding of Literacy and Shaping of Identity I. Theme of Literacy Narrative A. In my opinion, literacy means the understanding of text and other forms of meaning-making and the ability to make meaning in various forms, such as reading, writing, and other forms of representation. B. Literacy has helped me to develop my identity through self-actualization and facilitation of communication; this essay will describe how certain individuals and events impacted my development as a communicator. II. Setting/Place/Age A. I began reading and writing at home and around books, and I continued in elementary school, where creativity was encouraged. B. My home environment with books and my school, where I could freely discuss the things I read, helped me to learn to read and to love it. III. Literacy Sponsors A. My parents were my first and most important literacy role models. They read to me and encouraged me to read; my first writing mentor was my elementary school teacher. B. My parents’ insistence on reading before bed had a positive impact on my early story consumption, and my teacher’s comments on my writing made me appreciate my voice. C. Even today, I have not forgotten the lessons that I received from parents and teachers, especially when it comes to communication and education. IV. A Specific Event A. An event that made me understand the importance of literacy was when I won a writing competition at school, which made me want to be a writer. B. I still recall the day the announcement was made, the feeling of pride I felt, and this achievement made me realize that I had a passion for writing, and as a result, I ventured into other forms of writing such as poetry. V. Resolution A. I have to navigate and gain media literacy, particularly in multimedia communication, to be current with the current literacy. B. In order to increase my literacy consciousness, I could enroll in courses such as digital media and storytelling and use various forms of media to improve my communication.
